Legends & Legacy was started by a small but mighty group of women in 2007 with our inagural gala;
Legends & Legacy - Diva Hollywood Auction & Gala. The following year the theme was A Night in Paris. Our charity of choice for both years was Hospice Simcoe, helping their capital campaign raise much needed funds for a 10 bed residential hospice, providing an alternative setting for those living with a life-threatening illness. We are pleased that we helped to raise close to $40,000 from our two events and that Hospice Simcoe will be opening their doors to their hospice in Spring 2009.
The Gala is a one of a kind women’s only event. From the initial greeting, to the fabulous décor, gourmet meal, live auction and exciting entertainment, we provide a night to remember. As we celebrate we honour five women from the community who are leaving a Legacy in people’s lives.
We are pleased to announce that for the years 2009 and 2010 our charity of choice was the Elizabeth Fry Society of Simcoe County.
The Elizabeth Fry Society of Simcoe County has been providing services for over twenty years to women, men and children who are part of our community, who turn to Elizabeth Fry Society for support. In those twenty years Elizabeth Fry Society has grown and expanded its programs and services to meet the needs of each individual it serves. On a daily basis, week in and week out they provide housing, food, counselling, employment training, jail visitation plus much more while offering companionship and a non-judgmental approach. Joyce Kope House is the only transitional shelter in Simcoe County for homeless women. Women who use the residence may be discharged from mental health facilities, seeking safety from an abusive partner, women who have been victims of sexual assault, women going to and from treatment centers, released from correctional institutions or seniors without housing or living on the streets. Addicted women including drugs, alcohol and gambling addictions find refuge here. Recently there has been an increased need and requests for sheltering 12 – 15 year olds with nowhere else to go. With help from community groups and churches plus schools and individuals who care, E Fry offers assistance to men, women and children who otherwise would go hungry through their Grocery Assistance Program. E Frys goal and role is to offer those seeking their assistance hope, love and a future. You can make a difference – like they do – one person at a time. Future plans include a shelter for youth, the establishment and growth of our social enterprise – Newgate Auctions and the Newgate Centre employment program; where acceptance and achievement are two of the keys to success. Permanent funding for the Grocery Assistance Program is vital, so that they can continue to offer food for the poor and those in need in a non-judgmental and supportive environment. The dedicated group of women who are the organizers of the Legends & Legacy Gala also have a vision and a goal; to assist the Elizabeth Fry Society of Simcoe County in helping others in need.
We are currently accepting applications to become the charity of choice for 2011. The application can be found on the Home page and the Contact Us page. We are asking you to help us so that we may help those who need assistance. Please consider sponsoring, donating or buying a ticket to the event.
